LU Applied Choreography Fall 2022

There's A Time and Place

Choreographed by Brittany Gonzalez

Design Concept Statement

The mood of this lighting should be playful and intimate as it follows the story of two strangers at a bus stop who decide to pass the time through their imagination. The lights begin by flashing blue and yellow along with a metronome to emphasis the theme of time seen throughout the performance. As the dancers make their way to the bench, a pool of top light isolates them to their waiting and front light allows the performers to communicate the story through facial expressions. As the clock ticks, the lights turn yellow and green to become more sunny and playful. Side light becomes more important during this section as it sculpts the movement to emphasize the make believe. When the dancers look at their watches and realize the bus should be coming soon, the lights restore to how they looked at the start of the dance.

Ataraxy

Choreographed and Performed by Serinity Schmitt

Design Concept Statement

The lighting of this dance reflects the calm, meditation of the performance. Half of the stage is lit by dramatic side light and a calm blue cyc while the other half is only lit by back light to show the dancers journey between hope and darkness.

It's All In Your Head

Choreographed and Performed by Ashley Hawkins

Design Concept Statement

The design of this dance is split into five sections. The first section is a flashing green and yellow cyc to mimic a panicked heartbeat and anxiety. It is quickly replayed by a dark stage with one singular pool of top light and back light to mimic the isolation and lack of confidence of the dancer. As the high heels click, the only light on stage becomes the pink cyc light leaving the performer in silhouette as she is learning to find her confidence. Once her confidence is found, side light and front light are added to showcase her body and the confidence she is expressing. Finally, even when the anxious heartbeat sound returns, the dancer is still in a pink cyc to signify that even though she may struggle, she has the confidence to overcome it.
