LU Applied Choreography Fall 2021
The Growth Of
Choreographed and Performed by Morgan Birdsong

Design Concept Statement
The lighting of this dance reflects the lifetime of a flower as it grows. The lights start small and dark, but as the dancer portrays the growth of the flower, the lights grow wider and brighter until ultimately they are shining bright and have reached the yellow glow of sunlight. The mood the lighting should be portrayed should be peaceful and intimate.
End
Choreographed and Performed by Alton Avery

Design Concept Statement
The lighting of this dance emphasizes pools of top light as a representation of the past, the present, and the future. As the dancer travels between these parts of his life, he must walk through dark spaces of uncertainty as he figures out where he should be looking to. As he travels through the spaces, he is lit by side lighting to sculpt his form. Ultimately, in the end, he decides to look to the future- a sign of hope- and the other pools of light vanish.
The Construction of Love
Choreographed and Performed by Jayda Winters

Design Concept Statement
The lighting of this dance starts dark and blue to reflect the sadness of heartbreak, but around halfway through the performance becomes brighter as the dancer finds hope in healing her broken heart. Even though it is brighter, the blue remains as the sadness still haunts the performer. The performer is back-lit throughout the dance to pull them from the background and there is sidelight to help sculpt their body and highlight the romantic dress as it moves.
